Zoo Hoenderdaell

The Lion Foundation is a rescue centre for feline predators, located at Hoenderdaell Estate. The foundation's aim is to provide shelter for these animals when in need.

Visitors with an entry ticket to Hoenderdaell may visit the Lion Foundation at no extra charge. The foundation's hunting simulator is in action at 12.00 and at 15.00. A lion or a tiger is released into the hall, where it will hunt its 'prey'. This is a way to teach rescue animals to hunt again, and it is fascinating to see!

The Estate also offers a number of animal interactions. You can help feed the ring-tailed lemurs when staff bring fruit to be handed out. Don't be surprised if one of the lemurs comes and sits on your shoulder! The ring-tailed lemurs are fed at 11.00 and at 16.00 hours.

In addition visitors may buy feed for the lorikeets throughout the day. These will perch on you, and eat what you give them at leisure. There is a bird of prey show twice daily, at 11.00 and at 15.00. To put the icing on the cake you can take a tour with the electric 'whispering' boat.
