Summer at Camping Bakkum is pure joy! Sun, sea, forest, and happy faces all around. But while you're enjoying everything the warm season brings, it’s wise to keep an eye on a few things for yourself and your kids.
First: apply sunscreen well! The sun is lovely, but strong. Use a high-factor sunscreen and reapply several times a day, especially after swimming or playing. Don’t forget the ears, neck and feet!

- Speaking of feet: watch out when going barefoot. Sand can get very hot, and the woods may have sharp sticks or stones. Flip-flops or water shoes are your best friend!
- Stay hydrated. Bring a bottle of water with you and top it up regularly. Especially with kids, they often don’t realize they’re thirsty until it’s too late.
- Out in the woods and dunes, nature is alive and so are ticks. Check yourself and your children every evening and keep a tick remover on hand. Better safe than sorry!
- And then: wildfire hazard. Summers are getting drier, so be careful. Smoking in the forest is a no-go, and barbecues are only allowed on gas or electricity if it's safe and permitted.
- Heading to the beach? Wonderful! Just keep an eye on the flags at the Castricum beach entrance. Yellow means caution, red means swimming is not allowed. The sea is beautiful – but powerful too.
